The foreground vegetation naturally frames the scene and adds depth to the image. The lake surface is slightly rippled, the sky partly overcast. This layered composition gives the fisherman a strong visual presence despite his small size in the frame. The image illustrates everyday traditional paddle fishing on Lake Toho as it is still practised today.
