Description:
Ouidah, Benin. New Gate of No Return. Frontal view from the ocean side. Workers in yellow vests and hard hats are busy completing final site work in the foreground during the January 2026 inauguration. Beneath the arch, a horse and visitors in traditional dress animate the esplanade as part of the Vodun Days celebrations, held in the first days of January 2026. The large high-relief golden frieze, sculpted by Beninese artist Fortuné Bandeira from over 200 hand-crafted golden figurines, depicts the forced march of captives toward the Atlantic. January 2026.
