Description:
Facing the de Souza family residence — home of Francisco Félix de Souza, Chacha and vice-king of Dahomey under King Ghézo — the Place des Enchères was Ouidah's main slave market. Renamed under the Bénin Révélé program, it now hosts a memorial sculptural ensemble: ground-level spheres, monumental heads representing the Xwéda, Fon, and Yoruba peoples, and bronze figurative works evoking the transatlantic trade. The family house, rehabilitated since 2020, remains the living sanctuary of an unparalleled Atlantic memory.
