Description:
Avebury, Wiltshire, England. Avebury is the largest circular megalithic complex in the world, built between 2850 and 2200 BC in Wiltshire, England. This Neolithic monument comprises an outer circle 335 metres in diameter, originally consisting of 98 stones, some weighing over 40 tonnes. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 along with Stonehenge, Avebury and its associated sites (West Kennet Avenue, Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill) form an exceptional sacred landscape that bears witness to 2,000 years of prehistoric ceremonial activity.
