Gaani, the word means joy or victory, is the African version of the Fantasia of Morocco. It’s a custom that comes straight from Arabia. Riders on richly adorned purebred Arabians perform a choreography against the backdrop of tom-toms, mock battles are played out, followed by cavalcades and dressage demonstrations. There is at least one big Gaani per year: on the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Gaani are also organized during the election of kings or during an important event in the life of the riders.
