Paris France. The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile, on a rainy day, as seen from the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. The Arc de Triomphe (Triumphal Arch) is situated in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle (formerly "place de l'Étoile" - star plaza) a giant traffic roundabout of twelve avenues. The construction was commissioned by Napoléon 1st and designed by architect Jean Chalgrin in a Neoclassical style. The monument was completed in 1836 after 30 years of construction. It was declared Historical Monument in 1896. This Triumphal Arch has a height of 50 meters (164 ft), width of 45 meters (148 ft) and depth 22 meters (72 ft).
