Description:
Baalbek, Lebanon. Archaeological site of the ancient city. Temple of Jupiter. The monumental three-flight staircase leading up to the temple for the priests of the cult is clearly visible. With the exception of the great temple at Tarsus, the Temple of Jupiter at Baalbek is the largest in the Roman world. It was built over an area of 4,224 square metres. All that remains are six columns with a diameter of two and a half metres at the base and a height of twenty-two metres.
