Description:
Ouassa Pehunco, Benin. Construction of a dwelling with laterite. Laterite is a type of soil or clay with high iron oxide content - hence the more or less reddish colour. Maleable when fresh, it becomes rock hard when in contact with air and develops weather resistant properties. The word comes from the latin "later", meaning "brick".
