Chatila, camp des réfugiés. Samiha Abbas Hijazi, dit « Oumm Ali », une libanaise originaire du sud et mariée à un palestinien, a perdu son mari pendant les massacres de «Tal-el-Zaatar» en 1976. En 1982, lors des massacres de Sabra et Chatila, elle perd sa fille Zeinab, 17 ans et jeune mariée et son gendre. Son fils Ali, 10 ans, sera tué lors de la guerre de camps quelques années plus tard (1985-1987). La douleur et les larmes surgissent chaque fois qu'elle évoque ses souvenirs, même 30 ans après. Aujourd'hui « Oumm Ali » vit vit dans une pièce située à quelques dizaines de mètres du camp de l’UNRWA. Il n'y a ni toilettes, ni cuisine. Elle travaille comme femme de ménage dans une maternelle, dans laquelle elle tient aussi un petit commerce de sucreries pour les enfants. Ses deux activités lui rapportent 140 dollars par mois. Son loyer est de 65 dollars par mois. Ici elle est devant chez elle avec sa petite fille, Aya, dans les bras. Aya vit avec sa mère à l’étranger. Shatila refugee camp. Samira Abbas Hijazi, aka “Umm Ali“, is Lebanese and comes from the south of Lebanon. She was married to a Palestinian whom she lost during the “Tel el Zaatar“ massacres in 1978. Her daughter Zeinab, a young 17 year old newly wed, and her son-in-law are assassinated in 1982 during the Sabra & Shatila massacres. During the “Camp wars“ a few years later (1985-1987) she loses her son Ali, 10 years of age. Every time she talks about her memories, a surge of pain and tears appears, even 30 years after the events. Today “Umm Ali“ lives alone in a one room apartment on the outskirts of the Shatila refugee camp, just a few meters from the UNRWA camp. She has no toilets or bathroom, nor kitchen. She earns her money as a cleaning woman in a kindergarten where she also has a small shop with sweets for the children. She earns 140 US$ a month. Her rent is 65 US$ a month.
